Production Courses

IN A BAND AND THINKING ABOUT A DEMO?

A DIY recording of your band, is usually the first time you get to sit down and listen to your performance. It may also be the first time anyone outside the band hears your music too, so its important to capture your sound as accurately and as faithfully to your sonic vision as possible. A thorough understanding of standard equipment and recording techniques can make the difference between a killer track or an instant flop!

WANT TO PUT YOUR OWN GIGS ON BUT DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START?

You’ve got the gear in the van, the singer looks great, your bassist has arrived on time. You’ve designed an amazing flyer and got 200 Facebook friends down to the venue. Now what? Correct setup and a good sound check can make or break a gig. You might think you sound good on stage but all the crowd can hear are drums and screeching vocals and they’re baying for blood! Welcome to the world of gain, EQ, monitors and public address systems, your true friends in times of crisis.

WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT MUSIC PRODUCTION?

The Arctic Monkeys, Queen, The Kings of Leon, they all kneel at the feet of the mighty Record Producer. A producer runs the show in the studio. They’re the movie directors of the music business: coaching the performers and controlling the sessions. They are supervisors, mentors, and project managers. Many are accomplished musicians, many make records without touching a single instrument and without them, there would be no hip-hop or dance music. Find out what it takes and learn the tools of the trade. Arise Sir Rock-A-Lot!

LEARN THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE RIGHT JOB.

There’s only so much you can learn from a manual. The internet helps with some things, but with so many bedroom-producers out there it can get tricky picking out the signal from the noise. How do you mic up a drum kit? How do you record a fiddle or an acoustic guitar? Choosing the right hardware and software before you hit record has a far greater bearing on your end-sound than any amount of tweaking and post processing can.
